OK, here's the deal. I'm trying to connect my XP-ran network through an old Netgear router to my Xbox, but it's not working. I don't think I'm missing anything obvious, the connections are in place, the IP spread seems OK … Still, I can't see the Xbox in the network setup no matter what I try. It's been hours now, and I'm this close to giving up. Any help from you guys would be awesome…

I know you said you've already tried the obvious solutions, but just in case – you wouldn't believe how many times I've seen this oversight – Have you tried pinging the Xbox from more then one machine on the LAN? In some cases it turns out that one or more machines see it / have access to it, and others don't. If this is what happens, then it's most likely a firewall issue of some kind that's messing with your setup.
