I never use this IM program, and I hate it being turned on every time Windows starts, so I tried removing it, but for some reason it doesn't show in the Add/Remove Programs menu. I searched the net and found one method of removing it, but it involves messing with Windows default services, and it says it's a risky task and shouldn't be done if one's not sure what one's doing… and I'm not, to be honest. Do you guys know of some other, safer way to remove Windows Messenger from my computer?

Sure, though this one doesn't always work. Don't look for it in the main Add or Remove Programs window, it's not supposed to be there – instead, click the Add/Remove Windows Component to the left. That should open a new, smaller menu, and windows messenger should be the last entry. Just uncheck it, and you should be OK. However, this doesn't always work, like I said. If it doesn't you should do a google search for WM removal tool, there's several small utilities out there written specifically for this purpose.
