| If it’s any comfort I think many people went through that moments of Windows dilemma “Should I save the settings? Maybe after shut down ..or not “. But one thing for certain does: blocking your safe CTRL+ALT+DELETE option. Long time shutting down, waiting for it to start, showing the saving settings messages, which one of here mentioned will be your problem depends and varies often on which program is left running when you started the shutting down process. So, what is up to you is to close all the programs before the shutting down including the ones in system tray ( which can get easily forgotten). If your shutting down doesn’t happen’ after 1-2 minute after the initiation, something is obviously holding the process, If process is not going the right way you probably will be notified by “Wait, End Task, Cancel” message box. Then you have to exam listed programs and why they weren’t terminated properly. One of the options that is still there is to address to the manufacturer, go to company web. Many processes that Windows XP is using are interacting with other programs that are installed on your PC. These interactions don’t go always smoothly so can delay shutting down. All this is kind of bearable comparing with nest option: software or hardware problems, which could be major factor. Motherboard - BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) might need to be updated to function properly with XP, Videocards, Soundcars(uninstalling them and then checking if the shutting down is working is the easiest way)are some of the components that could cause shutting down problem. Windows Xp when was released opened possibility or need for more device drivers then any other windows model but of course never solved the problem of providing supporting ones in “public demand for them amount”.. So you have signed and unsigned as categories, and unsigned could cause the trouble for Windows system, specially mixing them with signed ones. And then what is to be done, then to drivers you use that aren’t on compatible signed Microsoft list replace by signed ones, so could have someone else to blame for not being able to shut down your PC. |
