I’m about to install Windows XP by myself for the first time in my life, and onto a freshly formated Maxtor Hard Drive. I would like to partition it prior to installing the OS, dividing its 150 GB into 3 or 4 partitions. The problem is I don’t rightly know how to do that. With Win 98, there was this boot floppy disk, and it has tools for paritioning the HD. With Win XP, I’m supposed to boot from CD and I can’t find any such tools there. Am I missing something here?

My own experience with XP has been limited, but I seem to remember the installation forcing your to format, and during that, offering to create partitions for you. So, there was no real need to format the HD before installing, since you’ll have to do it again anyway. Hopefully it’ll ask you if you want partitions, like I said. If it doesn’t, you can always parition in-system, using some application like Partition Magic or the like.
