Hey guys. My anti-spyware scan (using Ad-Aware SE) shows a file called “pchost.exe”, with a red qustion mark next to it. I don’t know what this means, and if the file is really bad or not. Should I delete it? Could this lead to potential system problems, if the file is actually somehow essential? I’m using Windows XP and Internet Explorer. Thanks in advance.

If memory serves, pchost.exe is actually a fle associated with one of the non-essential services in Windows. A lot of people disable it anyway, and on their machines it never gets noticed by programs like Ad-Aware or Spybot. In and of itself, it’s no danger to you, but it is still possible (how remotely I can’t say) that it is actually infected and/or used by some sort of malware, which could be the reason it’s being picked up in scans. If you quarantine or delete it, you should experience little to no decrease in OS stability and performance.
