| I am here trying to change my Windows system, want to put a new Microsoft Vista one .Heard many ways how to do it, like making dual system PC, meaning keeping the Windows XP Pro and installing Vista on a side . On the other hand I also heard people have complained about that method. And now I am lost what way to follow? |

| Glad that you came here to ask! I think uninstalling XP Pro and running clean install of Vista using the HP Upgrade Utility is the best choice even though many people say having dual system is also working fine, but there is a possibility that during the Vista upgrade installation you can get error message on the matter of compatibility because some registries left from previous Windows XP OS. So before uninstalling the XP Pro make recovery disk so if upgrade fails you can re-install XP. Go to HP Upgrade Utility panel and click Next that will launch Backup and Recovery manager. Then select Expert mode or if it’s not available again click on Next. Chose option Create system recovery discs/ Next and follow the written paths for the future action. When it’s said put blank disks in DVD/CD- ROM drive. Don’t use –RW because process will fail. Your PC has to already have HP Backup & Recovery program for this action of course. To be sure because there is a possibility that this way won’t back up all that you want, make usual backing up of files on n external media (DVDs, CDs, flash memories..). To make space for Vista HP Upgrade will remove hard drive partitions. Then it will tell you to put Windows Vista OS disk in the drive (CD/DVD- ROM). The drive door still stay opened, while HP is asking you to start 2 operations Flash the BIOS (basic input output system) and restart PC to install Vista OS. So don’t stop this process, just go with the next flow: verify that Pc is connected to an AC power supply, then click Next for flashing the BIOS to begin, don’t interrupt that process, and when it is finished, close the disk drive door, and hit (press) the power button to restart Pc. When the message “Press any key to boot from the DVD\CD-ROM disc” appears, press Enter or any key on the keyboard. Windows vista installation can last for an hour with many restarting of the PC which are necessary for proper installation and configuration of Vista OS, and that way HP Upgrade Utility is preparing the system for the Windows Vista for future upgrade. Good sides of this kind of installation is that you won’t have later system problems caused by some past OS lefties. You are now starting with “tabula rasa” (blank ) hard disk, installing from Vista CD and following the prompts, which will probably make you system run faster. Losing the data and need for reinstalling the programs you had on previous OS, which will take some extra time are bad sides , but as I said you will get that time back with faster and safer OS performance. |
