Could someone explain to me how this is done? Is there an online guide to it, or something like that? I tried setting this up (I know some of my neighbors have wireless access), but I couldn't get it to work. The only networks I detected were password-protected. Also, how legal is this? Thanks in advance!

Well, about the networks you found, did you try the usual suspects as passwords? I mean, of course, "admin", "1 2 3 4", "password", and stuff like that. These are the most common default passwords that most users leave unchanged, either on purpose or because they don't care.

And about legality, as far as I know, this is still in the gray area.
