| I'm having difficulties trying to set up a small home network. It consists of four computers running XP, which are supposed to be connected via an old Linksys router. Actually they *are* connected, because they all have shared internet access, but the fact remains that I can't see or access the files on any of the computers from any other. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious here, so if someone could point it out, I'd be obliged |

OK, let's run through the obvious solutions real quick:
First, try switching off the firewalls on all the machines (don't forget the Windows XP system firewall) to see if they are what's blocking the internal network traffic. If they are, great, you'll just have to configure them properly when you turn them back on. If not, proceed.
Second, make sure all the computers are sharing the same subnet mask. While you're at it, write down the IP addresses (gained via the "ipconfig /all" command) and try pinging each machine manually from every other.
Third report back with the results.
