| I need some advices. Recently I have decided to replace my Windows XP with Ubunty. I wonder if any one has experience with this OS. Is it compatible with the most of computers, and other Windows programs (Word, Excel, etc)? Is it hard to install, and how much time it takes? |

| Ubuntu is the name for new Linux platform. It supports Intel (Nasdaq: INTC) x86, AMD 64-bit, and Power PC (Apple iBook, Powerbook, G4 and G5) and OpenPower (Power5) architectures. It also supports Sun UltraSPARC and T1 (Sun Fire T1000 and T2000) architectures. Its free to use: operating system has no user restrictions and does not require a subscription. With this OS comes: the OpenOffice 2.0 office suite for word processing, spreadsheets and business presentations, presentation software package called "Impress" and a database program called "Base", and many more. You wouldnt have any trouble exchanging your documents made in Windows XP Office with those created in OpenOffice. Similarly, you will work seamlessly with graphics files swapped between Linux's Gimp image editor and several Windows-based editing programs. Installation of Ubuntu is quite easy. The process took less than 20 minutes and did not require any system reboots. If you are a Linux newbie, it is an ideal Linux distribution. |
