I always took for granted the common knowledge, that the mac is more secure than a pc. Now, I've been hearing talk about some major security gaps in mac OS that leaves it even more open to attacks than Windows? Is any of this for real? A more detailed explanation would be great thanks. Or just a link to an article, whatever?

As most rumors, this has a grain of truth to it, but not much more. About a year ago Symantec had made a statement declaring that many Mac users work under a false sense of security. Basically, they were warning that no matter what system you're running, you do need to keep up the standard security protocols. Maybe it did burst a bubble for some people who think that having a Mac makes them somehow immune to any sort of net intrusion… but no one actually realistically compared OS X security issues with the comedy that is Windows security. At least AFAIK.
