My friend sent me some photos and I stored them in folder separate from my other pictures. When I tried to open them in iPhoto I got the message that picture format is unsupported. They are just ordinary jpegs. How that can be unsupported? To be even more annoying iPhoto shows me thumbnails of this pictures. Do you have any advice about this problem?

This problem seems to be quite regular with iPhoto. iPhoto makes links between thumbnails and pictures and if they are on some other place then in his library he can not see them. The solution is to rebuild library. If you have iPhoto 5.0.2 you will see nice dialog when you invoke option for rebuilding library where you can choose what you would like to rebuild. In iPhoto versions prior to 5.0.2 this option was not present so rebuilding library demanded some manual work. So, if you have earlier versions please upgrade your software. Other possible solution is to repair permissions (Applications-Utilities-Disk Utility).
