no sound in games but have sound in other apps

I have a strange problem. When I start some new games I can not hear any sound from them. On the other hand, when I play music or watch movies then I can hear sound without any problems. I really like to play games so this is a big problem for me. I would really appreciate if you could tell me what to do to solve this problem.

We can rule out hardware problems and driver problems because sound card is working well in other applications. So, I can presume that you have problems with DirectX settings or outdated DirectX on your system. Try to install latest DirectX version and check if your sound card is compatible with new DirectX versions.
