Hi, guys, quick question: How can I make sure that a new HDD isn't dead, just improperly detected? I added an IDE hard drive the other day (a second one), set it to secondary master (it's not on the same line as the primary one), and … nothing. BIOS doesn't detect it, and consequently, Windows doesn't either. What am I doing wrong here?

Nine times out of ten cases like this, people screw up the jumper settings. The fact that you have it on a different branch from the primary doesn't necessarily make it a sec master – you could've still set it to slave. Anyway, why not just set it to 'cable detect' in BIOS, and let it figure it out on its own.
