Heh, I am using netgear wg111v2 for my wireless connection, at least that is how it suppose to be said but am I establishing any with this one - that is another thing. Well true it slips sometimes and manages to connect to the network but for the very short time. This is what I call a short term connection. And if succeed, then I am getting a horribly low speed performance. So I wonder, if someone could explain to me how to make it work properly.

Hi! What I can only suggest is to check if there are some powerful devices around you that are maybe interrupting the channel that you are using. Maybe you are having some mobile device in your surrounding or another wireless router. From what you wrote I cant came up with anything much smarter then this. You could post your PC configuration to see what you are dealing with.
