I didn't put it there, but I don't know if it's safe to remove it now that it's there. It seems to be taking up a negligible amount of system resources, but still, if it's not essential to an application I'm using (and I can't seem to confirm that it is), I'd like to drop it, on general principle. I checked Windows help index, it doesn't mention it. Can you guys help me out here? TIA.

Msnappau.exe is related to MSN Messenger. More specifically, it's part of it's toolbar, and performs automatic updates – I'm guessing your firewall alerted you to it, right? If you're not using Messenger, go ahead and remove the plugin from the startup folder. You might have a slightly harder time removing the Messenger itself, though
