I’ve been using cable internet for over a year. These days something is wrong with my provider and when I wanted to get back to dialup again, I couldn’t connect. I know that I have a modem installed and I know how to create a connection. I just don’t understand why I can’t connect and the error message I keep on getting is: there’s no dial tone.

That’s a usual problem of almost all the people who try to use dialup after some time spent with cable or ADSL. You should check out your modem and see if the drivers are installed. After you do that you can adjust the connection settings and switch that option wait for dial tone to don’t wait for dial tone and I think that it can solve the problem. I can’t exactly remember where those settings are, but look into connection properties and check under all tabs. And be prepared for a shock because once you try the cable Internet, return to dialup is like a nightmare. I couldn’t believe how slow that was when my cable provider was out of order for a couple of days.
