Hello! I tried to dual boot my xp professional machine with gentoo-linux yesterday. I partitioned for gentoo and compiled the kernel but then I had to stop since it was really late. When, I wanted to reboot the machine this morning, I got the message: "Invalid partition table". I have a Dell machine, pent 4, 512 Kb of RAM, and a 80 Gb hd. Could it be that I’m getting this message because I made both my partitions bootable? I’d appreciate any kind of help with this!

I’m pretty sure that making both your partitions bootable is the problem. I didn’t even know it was possible. You don’t have to make the gentoo partition bootable – Linux doesn’t care about it. None of my partitions is bootable. You didn’t state in your post how you repartitioned the drive. I’m really looking forward to hear from you on how could you make both partitions bootable anyway.
