Here's the deal: I got this new laptop (dell inspiron 6k) to add to my home network, but I can't get it to work with my router (also dell, wireless 2350). First, I can no longer connect automatically, second, my wireless connection isn't even displayed about 50% of the time (though some others are, never heard of them), and finally, when I do manage to connect, I get randomly cut out. I've got no idea what's going on, how is it possible that two machines (laptop and router) are interacting so badly, especially since they're the same brand? What am I supposed to do here?

Sounds like some major interference issues. Check your surroundings for other networks and try isolating somehow. Still, it's weird that the problem would crop up as soon as you added a new machine… Now, I'm just fishing here, but have you tried updating the firmware on the router after adding the laptop? Not sure if this could be the cause, but you should try the update anyway, it can't hurt.
