On the HP there was no sensitivity configuration option for the touchpad, so, I tried installing the latest drivers (Synaptic) hoping to get some sensitivity controls that way. Not only did I not find that, it also screwed up the cursor movement completely! Now it drifts in the direction in which I last moved it, and I have to jerk back to stop, it's like inertia keeps it going, or something. I tried the "roll back drivers" option, but I get a "no version available" error message. Anything I can do to set things straight here? TIA.

I never heard of this error message before, is it on Windows XP? Anyway, the one foolproof method of getting rid of unwanted drivers is this: Using device manager, remove the hardware in question (touchpad in this case). If the drivers were saved in a default location, delete or move them elsewhere. Scan for "new" hardware, and when prompted for drivers, provide the older version you have stored somewhere. Hope that makes sense…
