how to discover device address on the LAN?

I use Ubuntu linux distribution and have a huge problem. I can not discover address of my router. I am trying to set small home network. I am newbie with linux stuffs and I have never set a small network (but I have found great tutorial for it). I just want to ask you to help me with finding routers address.

I suppose that you have installed and plugged your router. To find its IP address open shell and type:
Route n
You should get 192.168.1.1
Go to internet and in browser type this address and set your settings.
If mentioned command does not work, I suggest you to buy new router, because that one is broken.
