I was just wondering, how often I should format my hard drive? They recommend it in computer magazines. Once a week, once a month or once a year. It looks little weird to spend so much time just to delete all your files. Why would anyone wanted to do such a thing? How that affects computer hardware? I think that you can actually damage it.

Thats nonsense. You cannot damage your system or hardware with formatting. Its just like saying that cleaning your organism would destroy your health. If you are downloading and installing files all the time, then you should do it 2-3 times a year. It all depends. If you just watch movies and listen to music, then there is no reason for formatting. Formatting your drive is like general cleaning of your system. If you just delete program or uninstall it, some of the files will stay and affect computer stability. Imagine tons of plug-ins, add-ons and codecs. It all stays somewhere in your system structure. There is an option to prevent this kind of problems by examining your registry base. You must be very skilled in order not to damage registry file.
