how do you speed your computer up?

It seems to me that my PC started to slow down recently and I’m not sure how I can speed it up. I suppose such thing is normal but I’m new to computers. You people here are much more experienced than me and I would really appreciate it if you could tell me what do you do to speed up your computers? Thanks a lot!

The first thing that comes to my mind is defragmentation. I also think that you should scan your PC for viruses and spyware and get rid of everything you don’t need. On the other hand, whenever you’re not satisfied with your PC’s performance and you have a bit of money to spare, you should get some more RAM.
