Hello, I'm looking for a free hosting service that with at least 200-300 MB of space, and a minimum of ads. Bandwith isn't really an issue, but then again FTP access would be great. At the very least I'd need to be able to upload archive files, which I see many hosting services deny. Could someone point me in the right direction here? Many thanks.

There's a number of free hosts that would meet your requirements, but it's not that easy, actually. You'll need to go to their sites and apply for hosting, then wait to see how you compare to other applicants. Also, you'll have to provide information about the contents of your site, and some even request that you have a version already online so they can evaluate it in advance. Try sites like cybertoad.net, yurx.com, or just search freewebspace.net.
