OK, here's the deal. I've recently started using the Windows Movie Maker 2 for some video editing, and I'm having a hard time deciding on which video format to work with. When I capture in DV-AVI, I get a lot of dropped frames; I'm told this is because my machine is almost obsolete, and that there's nothing I can do about it. Also, the size of the files sometimes becomes an issue. I tried switching to the WMV format instead, but I'm not satisfied with the quality of the compressed videos. Is there some middle ground, or am I stuck with one of these options? Thanks.

Doing any video editing work, you should really consider a system upgrade if your system can't handle simple AVI encoding. But I guess you know that. As an option, you could try raising the capture quality settings of WMV. If you switch to maximum, you should get better results than with the default setting. Then again, I'm not sure how well your machine can handle it…
