I'm using Ad Aware to scan my computer for spyware, and it just reported that a file called dxdiag.exe has been infected. It looks like it can't be disinfected, so I need to choose whether or not to delete it. I was told this is a DirectX related file. Is it an essential one? Will my games work without it? Can I delete it without causing system damage? TIA.

Like the name says, dxdiag.exe is a diagnostic tool for DirectX, so no, it's not what you would call essential. I'm surprised that it's infected, because AFAIK it has nothing to do with network-related processes. Still, stranger things have happened. Go ahead and delete it, you can get a replacement in just about any DirectX package you install later.
