I am planning to buy a second desktop computer. I have cable modem that has only one port for computer so I wonder how to connect two PC's to a cable modem. This is very important to me because I would like to have internet access on both computers. Thank you in advance for your time.

It is easy to set up cable modem so two PC's can connect at the same time. The best option you have is to buy a router. They are not expensive these days and provide very good functionality and ease of use. Other option is to buy another network card for one PC and connect it to cable modem with one NIC while you connect second PC to the first NIC of first computer. Then you will have to configure internet connection sharing on first computer.
