Recently I moved from ADSL to Cable internet and I have some questions concerning my connection. I have coax cable splitter at the entrance of my house and the other is at my room. The one in my room is for TV and Internet, and the main one is serving the other TV and the cable that comes to my room. Ive heard that this way of multiply splitting is limited my bandwidth. Is this true? I talked with a guy from cable company and he is saying that this dont affect my internet speed.
Quality of television picture is good, even its on the same splitter as internet.
Splitter wont affect bandwidth of you internet in any way. But there are some other problems with this way of connecting modem. Every splitter weakens signal strength so I would say that only your modem can feel the difference. As weaker the signal the more your modem needs to work to get the job done. Usually this results in stronger heating of the device and shorter lifetime.
Its a good idea to do a 4way splitter at the entrance of your house and solve any possible problems at the beginning. But since they didnt made it that way, maybe you should leave it. If I understood well you were only concerned about bandwidth and not about signal strength. And there is no way to feel the difference if your cable company has a decent signal. Only if youre experiencing a loss of signal and disconnecting you should reconsider the other option.
