Few days ago my combo drive began to act strangely. It is a SONY drive and worked perfectly for some time. Now, it reads DVDs, CDs even can write on CDs but when I insert rewritable CD activity light flashes for some time (about twenty or thirty times) and then light continuously as long as I keep CD in drive. After I take it out light goes off. Meanwhile I am not able to read or write on CD RW media. Is there any help with this problem?

This is interesting problem. Have you tried media from other manufacturer like TDK, Maxell or Verbatim. Maybe this is a problem with media and not combo drive because if it burns normal CD then I do not see reason not to do it on rewritable CD. Although I have heard about this problem earlier but no one was able to provide any reliable solution. Even different ( proven to be good) combo drives worked the same way on that computer. That makes me think the problem is in Windows. If switching to another media doesnt help then try reinstalling Windows.
