| Hello. You have heard right. You can use a HOSTS file to block ads, banners, 3rd party Cookies, 3rd party page counters, web bugs, and even most hijackers. The Hosts file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names and it is loaded on Windows startup. You can use it to block website access if you add something like this in hosts file: 127.0.0.1 ad.doubleclick.net. After this, every request for ad.doubleclick will be redirected to your computer. |
