Taskbar is important part of every Windows edition. Its disappearance can cause a lot of headache to the users. Here are the few steps how to restore it.

In Windows, the default location for the Taskbar is at the bottom of the screen, and it contains by default the Start menu button, Quick Launch bar, taskbar buttons and notification area.

The Windows Taskbar can be modified by users in several ways. The position of the Taskbar can be changed to appear on any side of the primary display.
Users also can resize the height of the Taskbar or width when displayed vertically. To avoid accidental resizing or repositioning of the Taskbar, Windows XP locks the Taskbar by default.

When unlocked, the Taskbar as a whole can be hidden until it the mouse pointer is moved to the display edge, or it has keyboard focus. Also, when unlocked, Taskbar can be moved anywhere on (off) the screen.

Accidental hiding is often the main problem and main cause of lost Taskbar problem. Taskbar may be accidentally moved if it's unlocked.

These are solutions for some common causes for lost Taskbar.

If the Taskbar is disappeared

Possible reason is if the Taskbar is set to Autohide.

Solution:

1.
Bring up the Start menu, go to Settings and then Taskbar

2. In taskbar options check to see if Auto hide is selected

3. If it is, left click on the check box to unselect it

If the Taskbar is still not visible, it’s possible that it’s been dragged off the screen.

Solution:

In the same way you can drag icons around the desktop you can drag your Taskbar down until it disappears off the screen.

To bring back the Taskbar move the mouse to the bottom of the screen.

When the mouse cursor () changes to the up-down arrow ()holding the left mouse button down will allow you to drag the Taskbar up and down.

Still nothing?

It might be that the Taskbar has been moved.

Normally the Taskbar is found on the bottom of the screen but it can be moved to the top as well as the left and right sides. Its position on the screen is a matter of choice and it can be moved around rather easily:

Animated example of how the Taskbar can be moved across the screen:

To bring it back, you should do the following:

Solution:

  • Place the mouse cursor ()over any clear gray are of the Taskbar
  • Hold down the left mouse button and move the cursor to the part of the screen you want the Taskbar to go (top, bottom, left, right)
  • When you get to the desired location release the left mouse button

When you have found your Taskbar, you need to set your Taskbar to always be on top. Right-click the Taskbar and select Properties
In the Taskbar and Start Menu dialog box check the following selections: Lock the Taskbar and Keep the Taskbar on Top of Other Windows.
Then click OK

That would be few useful steps how to restore the lost Taskbar and prevent it from accidental moving or hiding in the future.

Another great way to deal with a lost task bar is to: create a new administrator user account, restart your computer; then: login as the new user... your task bar will be back! then: just replace user with your own old user settings you still have the old account: (maybe someone can work on that) with no task bar and, can't log it off but, who cares the fact that you don't have to re-install windows xp from scratch is worth it!
