When i start up my computer, it goes through the diagnostic screen, then moves on to the xp loading screen. halfway through the normaltime it takes to load, the screen flashes and returns to the loadup for a few more seconds.
screen then goes black and returns to the initial startup diagnostic screen. it keeps this up for as long as i keep the computer running.

im able to get into the settings screen with F1 or F2, cannot open the screen for system restore, not that im eager to go that route. computer works in safe mode, and as stated by the system, some hardware components do not work, i.e. the disk drive, sound, certain programs unable to run and the resolution is permanently bumped up a few sizes.

anyone have any suggestions before i take it to a shop and let them have free reign, or just buy a new system?
