I have a network with 4 machines – two of them are running win2000, one Mac OS and one XP Pro. I have a problem with getting my XP machine to access shared folders – I keep on getting some user/pass prompt. The internet connection is fine though. Other computers can access the shared folder. I thought adding my XP machine to this network wouldn’t be such a problem. Could anyone tell me what should I do to try to fix this?
It seems to me that you have the guest account enabled and that’s why there’s no authentication asked when other. You need to create accounts on the Win2000 machines that will match your login and password. Then you’ll be able to satisfy the authentication and you'll lose the password prompt. Passwords are really important if you want to prevent unwanted people from accessing your documents so both WinXP and Win2000 have it as a standard feature.
