Since reinstalling Windows XP, I can't seem to get my laptop to go into Standby mode by itself any more. I don't know why this is happening, I used to have it working perfectly OK before, but now that I reinstalled the exact same version of the OS (Pro), it just won't go! Any words of advice?

How long are you setting the auto stand by period to? If it's 45 minutes or more, then you should try setting it to something less, just to see if it works that way. If it does, then it's a known issue. There is a detailed explanation and solution over at the MS support site (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310601)
