XP Pro LAN internet connection problem!

I have two PCs at home and both were running Win98 until recently I upgraded one of them to XP Pro. And that’s where the trouble starts. It takes a lot of time for this XP machine to boot and then connect to the internet and sometimes it can’t connect to the internet at all. Since I’m using a router, I am unable to connect via WAN either( MSN attempts it automatically). Does anyone know how I can avoid having this problem?

In my opinion, this is either a driver issue or the cable you’re using is bad. You should also check if the cable is plugged in properly because sometimes the kind of problem that you’re describing can be caused by simply wiggling the cable. And/or get a better cable. If this doesn’t solve the problem, check if the ethernet card you’re using has the latest driver and update it if it hasn’t. I hope this helps!
