I'm having difficulty loading Windows XP (Home edition yeah, sucks, I know). I get a message saying "Error loading operating system" right after the POST screen. Everything was functioning OK up until two days ago. I would reinstall (my CD is still around here somewhere) but I don't want to have to reformat and lose my data.

Who says you need to reformat? Win XP prompts you for that, but you can avoid the process if you don't want to do it. Anyway, if you[re sure it's an OS issue and not about your hardware, try doing a repair installation. Just put in the install disc, and choose "repair existing installation of Windows XP" when it shows up. It's quicker and it keeps all your data and settings intact.
