Hello. I have home network that consist of three computers. Two of them are desktops and one is laptop. Desktop computers are connected with Cat5 cable to Linksys WRT54GL router while laptop connect wirelessly. Unfortunately, I have some issues with wireless connection and a friend of mine recommended me to buy access point that will help me to extend range of wireless network. Is this possible?

Hello. Your friend was right. If you buy wireless access point and configure it properly it will extend range of your wireless network and enable you to use laptop without problems. You will have to find right spot for this access point so it can receive good signal from router and emit quality signal to laptop.
