I can't seem to pull this thing down to validate my copy of Windows (XP Pro). When I open the page, it says that IE "stopped the previous page from installing an ActiveX control". WTF, I mean shouldn't the Microsoft site be on the white lists of IE7 or something? When I try the alternative download method, I end up with "validation not complete, Active X error". I need the damn validation tool if I want my hotfix, and I do want my hotfix. What am I supposed to do now?

The updaters can behave like this at times, though if I were you I wouldn't be complaining that IE7 chose to block an Active X page. So yeah, you should go for the optional download offered. Now, the reason why that fails is most often user clearance – you need to be logged in as admin to access it, so make sure you are.
