What are the advantages of the former over the latter? We’ve never had anything but Win 98 on the network, but may need to upgrade soon. All clients are fairly old machines (600 MHz, 64 MB RAM), so I’m not sure they’re even up to handling an improved OS. Anyway, should we switch or not, and why? Thanks in advance.

I honestly don’t know if 600 Mhz can run XP, but you should be able to check that at microsoft.com. Anyway, the areas that XP improves in the most from Win 98 are security and networking (and networking security). So, if these areas are important to you (and they should be), you should definitely consider an upgrade. Oh, and BTW Windows XP supports NTFS, Windows 98 does not.
