It just stops without actually shutting down all the way it hangs on the "windows shutting down" message. Then I have to use the power button to turn it off, and then it wants to do a scandisk the next time I restart. How do I stop this from happening? Thx.

This is a fairly common issue. Try searching the boards, I'm sure it's come up before a couple of times at least. Optionally, you could always try DH Tune up XP, it's a freeware tool for tweaking Win XP and correcting many of its minor nuances, such as your shutdown issue. Give it a shot: http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/DH-TuneXP-Download-14972.html
