I just bought an external USB 2.0 hard drive because I want to have a backup of all my important documents. Anyway, I am unable to do so because my PC won’t recognize this HD. I have already tried it on another PC in my house and it worked fine. I am running XP on my system. What do you think could possibly be the problem.

The most important thing is that the hard drive you bought isn’t faulty since it can be recognized on another PC. I’m not sure about this, but it may be that you have ‘Plug and play’ option disabled. Check if it is so in your BIOS. If this is not the case, you should perhaps try plugging something else into the same USB port and see if it works OK. Maybe there’s something wrong with the port itself.
