Hello. I am just little curious about which network protocols does Windows XP uses? And are some benefits if I try to use the Xp based system as a small server? What comes together inside the Service Pack 2 as default protocol? For what are other protocols? Protocols I need to add manually, later? Thanks on every revelation.

Hello there. Well you have a lot of questions, I must say. Ill try to enlighten you. The most supported one world wide is TCP/IP protocol. There are IPX/SPX and NetBEUI also. NetBEUI is no longer supported by Microsoft, but it still may be needed sometimes. It was the default for the Windows 95. IPX/SPX is sometimes used for file and printer sharing and if particular network requires this one, you can feel free to click on install option under the list, than click on protocol and than click on add. I think that there are no changes or differences with the SP1 and SP2 regarding network protocols. Regarding your XP as a server, better dont try. There is Windows 2003 server for that.
