I have a problem with plugging in a new Win XP computer into an existing LAN. I have a working LAN with a Netgear MR 314 wireless router and I’ve got two computers plugged in it - one is my old PC which I want to replace with this new one. It has Win 98 and is connected to the DSL modem. Other computer is a Win Xp laptop with a wireless PC card. Everything was OK but when I swapped the old Win 98 computer with the new Win XP one LAN just didn’t work. I was told that it should be easy and I should just plug the old one out and plug in the other. How can I make this work?
It should be that easy but there’s one more step you should do. It’s really simple: just turn everything off for a minute or two and then turn it on again. Your router is probably looking for the old computer on that port still so I think this should help – at least it worked for me when I had the same problem. I hope it’ll help you too.
