| Hello. I got one old kitchen computer with Windows 98 on it. I have plugged a dial-up modem inside for browsing the internet sometimes when I am stuck with making lunch, because I dont like climbing upstairs constantly. But, my modem does not seems to be detected by the Windows 98. Why? It is a newer hardware, it should be there in the device manager, there are drivers on the CD which is provided together with the modem. Thanks for any help. |

| How old is your machine? Some hardware requires enabled plug and play feature inside the BIOS. And if your BIOS is old as your motherboard maybe is, than you should consider updating your BIOS because of this feature. And maybe, your modem card is acting like some devices that requires connection through serial com port. When you connect particular hardware trough the serial port, windows does not detects anything, but it works after you install drivers, no matter recognition. So, try installing the drivers anyway. Maybe it will work. Good luck. |
