| I have upgraded Windows 98 to Windows XP Professional. Upgrade process went smoothly without any reported errors, but when I tried to boot in Windows XP following message greeted me instead Windows login screen: Windows could not start. The following file is missing or corrupted \windows\system\vgaoem.fon. What has happened? Where did I made a mistake during upgrade? |

You have not maid any mistake. This is documented on Windows web site as a possible problem during upgrade process from Windows 98 to Windows XP. You will have to start your computer with Windows XP installation CD and log on to recovery console. After this you will have to copy vgaoem.fon from Windows installation CD to /windows/system folder. Do this by typing next command: expand CD-ROM drive:\i386\vgaoem.fo_ drive:\windows\system where CD-ROM is letter of your CD ROM (for instance D:, and drive is letter of your hard drive for instance C . |
