I want to know if the data is deleted when “deleted”. Namely, I want to sell my computer. I had some very sensitive data stored on it’s hdd. Data is now backed up and transferred to my new machine. It is deleted from the previous hdd. A friend of mine told me that that’s not enough. He told that 90% of data may be recovered! Is that true?

Yes, it’s true. Even though the data is “deleted” the magnetic information of previous files remains almost intact and maximally recoverable. The fact is that even formatting and full-formatting won’t erase all the data for sure! The best way to make data unrecoverable is to use software that will randomly write and erase entire hdd few times. Another possibility is to use a hydraulic press.
