I was really surprised when I realized that apart from firewall software, there is also firewall hardware. Now since I am really new when it comes to networking, I would really like to hear explanation how this type of firewall functions and to hear some examples of firewall hardware. So, if there is anyone who knows a bit more about it, I am looking forward to hear it. Thanks for your help

Well, most often used hardware firewalls are placed inside of routers, but you can also buy them as a stand alone product. The prices can really vary, so you can buy some of them within a price range from 150 to 900 $, maybe even more. They most often do packet filtering - starting from the header and the source. The user may set these criteria, but there are also some predefined ones. You can browse the net, and you will see what is offered on the market today.

Hey there. First of all, thanks for your post. But I could use some more help, if you do not mind. I am running a small business, and since I will soon get a broadband connection, I would like to know which kind of protection it is better for me to use. I mean, what kind of firewall would you recommend me. I mean, I know that small companies too are often targets of attacks, so I would like to be protected as much as I can. On the other hand, as I am a beginner, I cannot afford some expensive solutions.
