Hello! I am planning to by router or switch because I am planning to configure small home local area network. But, I have noticed in computer shop that some routers and switches have an extra port called uplink port. I am not sure what this port is used for and that is why I am contacting you. I hope that you will know.

Hello! Well, I do not think that you need router or switch with uplink port. I am telling you this, because uplink port is used for adding one more router or switch to this port. Regarding the fact that you are planning to make small home local area network, I can tell you that you should buy common router or switch (router is better solution).
