Hi.

I have an old motherboard, PCCHIPS M830 with a AMD Duron 1GHz processor. I am satisfied with it’s performance, and wouldn’t like to buy new computer. Instead I’d change the CPU only. What is the fastest CPU I can put on my machine? Some say it is a Athlon XP 2000+, some say it can do with Barton 2600? Where can I buy these CPUs?

It’s almost impossible to find new CPUs of SocketA generation, so you should check e-bay, I’m sure you’ll find some cheap used processors there. I’m not sure about your mobo, I think that AthlonXP 2000+ is the maximum that it can hold. However, if you have a friend with faster Athlon, or Barton, you can try borrowing it to see if it works.
