The above might sound like an odd question to you, but I really am not sure, and no amount of web searching has got me an answer. I've put together this PC out of some old but functional components, and it's doing the job, it's just that any DVD movie I play is terribly choppy and sometimes hangs. The CPU is 800 Mhz, is that too slow for DVDs?

Not really, or at least it shouldn't be… because I know people who could watch DVDs on old 600 Mhz P2 machines. Two alternative suspects I can think of: Video card and DVD drive speed. Some older video cards can't process DVDs well (replace it), and some drives work at lower speed on systems with insufficient power (copy to HD before playing, or get another CPU).z
