I would like to use web camera for Home security system. I think that this is possible to do, but I do not know for sure. I would be able to spend some money for this purpose but far less then professional security systems cost. Can you recommend what I should buy?

First of all, you will need web camera. Buy better camera that can catch at least 30 frames per second, have built in web server (so you can access it from browser), and motion detector sensor. Connect it to computer via USB (preferably 2.0). Only thing that is left is software. You will need some intelligent software that can provide motion detection and recording as long as object is in the frame. You can try with Digi-Watcher. It is cheap and quite good.
